*Introit: "Jesus Loves Me"

1 Jesus loves me, this I know,

for the Bible tells me so;

little ones to him belong,

they are weak, but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

*Call To Worship

We have gathered to worship God.
We have come seeking comfort,
inspiration, community, and insight.

We have come to open ourselves
to the power of God's presence in our midst.
We have come to offer up the seasons
and the turnings in our lives,
and to ask God's help in our learning and in our growing
.

* Opening Prayer (unison)
Loving God, bless this congregation as we seek to serve you faithfully in all ways. As you have called us to worship together, strengthen us to support each other, to make your love known by word and example, and to know ourselves part of the company of all Christian people. Pardon and correct all that is wrong among us, accept and increase what is good, and unite us in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Amen

*Opening Hymn: Come, Let us Sing 222

Prayer of Confession (in unison):

Fit us, O God, for this new day.
Through your Spirit, grant us courage, so that today's uncertainties may not overwhelm us. Through your Christ, fill us with love, so that differences may not divide us. Through your creative energy, make us new, so that the past may not enslave us.
Spirit, Christ, Creator, lead us into newness of life. Amen.

On Your Behalf

Urgent Action to Support the Gun Registry in Canada

Since January 2006 the federal government has been taking regulatory measures to dismantle the long-gun portion of the registry, but to leave the gun registry in pklace for restricted weapons and handguns.

Background

The General Council of the United Church is calling on the Government of Canada to

· drop the amendments to eliminate the registration of unrestricted rifles and shotguns

· end the amnesty for gun owners who fail to renew their licenses

· ensure there are adequate resources to strengthen, not weaken, the screening processes for licenses (rather than waive or refund $120 million in licensing fees to gun owners, as currently promised)

· prohibit the sale of semi-automatic military assault weapons to civilians

· support increased awareness of the real threats of firearms, the risk factors, and appropriate interventions

For more information on the General Council's policy in support of gun registration please contact:
