O Canada! Our home and native land!
*True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
the True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
*God Save The Queen:
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen.
Life and Work of the Congregation
Passing of Christ's Peace
The peace of Christ be with you…
And also with you.
*A Remembrance Day Candle Lighting Liturgy Part 1
*Opening Prayer
In far off countries, in muddied trenches, they died for our future.
We shall remember them!
In foreign lands they risk their lives to bring an end to fighting.
We think of them!
In places of disaster across our country they answer the call for help.
We pray for them!
We come together to worship and enjoy our freedom, a peace paid for at a dear cost.
We come together to work for your lasting peace, O God. Amen.
*Hymn: "Though Ancient Walls" VU691
A Prayer For Peace
Create peace within us, O God.
When emotions swirl, when memories haunt, and decisions will not come easily; be our source of peace, O God.
Create peace around us, O God.
When indifference rules, when friends surprise, and situations test us; be our source of peace, O God.
Create peace through us, O God.
When injustice is clear, when a word needs speaking, when action is called for; be our will for peace, O God.
Create peace within our faith community, O God.
When we need to support each other, when we serve the wider church, when we face the hurts of a suffering world; be our inspiration for peace, O God.
Words of Assurance
Peace does not come effortlessly. It requires an openness to new insights, death to old hostilities, and the willingness to accept a new way.
We are ready to take up the challenge and accept a new vision.
Peace is God's graceful gift to you.
Thanks be to God. Amen.

O God, lead us from death to life, from falsehood to truth; lead us from despair to hope, from fear to trust; lead us from hate to love, from war to peace. Let your peace fill our hearts, our world, our universe. Amen

Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:1-13
Message: "Are You Prepared For Nothing?"
*Hymn: "Let There be Peace On Earth"
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth, a peace that was meant to be.
With God our creator, children all are we.
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:
to take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
We Respond To God's Word
Offering/Offertory
Ministry of Music God, Our God, Your Glorious Name
*Offertory Verse: "Grant Us, God the Grace…."VU540
Grant us, God, the grace of giving,
with a spirit large and free,
that ourselves and all our living
we may offer faithfully.*Offertory Prayer
The spirit of giving changes, O God, as you become our partner.
Our reluctance becomes generosity; our vision of offering widens to encompass gifts, skills and talents; our focus changes to include national and international needs.
Transform our giving, Loving God, in the Way of Jesus.
We pray in his name. Amen.
Prayers of the People(Written by Bill Steadman, used with permission)
Be with us, God, in this time of remembering. We are surrounded by images of the opportunities we enjoy and the freedom we cherish.
Be with us, God, in this time of remembering.
We remember those who have died in war, but we remember them for their love of peace and their desire to make the world a safe place for one and all.
Be with us, God, in this time of remembering.
We remember children who have grown up without a father or mother, we remember young ones who have lost a sister or brother, we remember those who have died in war, yet never sought to be a part of the battle.
Be with us, God, in this time of remembering.
We remember times past when people were discouraged, lonely, exhausted, and unsure of the future, but we also remember those who saw a reason for regaining hope and purpose in life, no matter the cost.
Be with us, God in this time of remembering.
Be with us, God, in this time of remembering as we join together in the words that Jesus taught us to share as we seek to be renewed by your presence:
Our Father…..
*Hymn: "For The Healing of the Nations" VU678
*A Remembrance Day Lighting Liturgy Part 3
*Commissioning
Remember the sacrifice, and pray for an end to war.
We remember, and we will strive to foster peace.
Remember the suffering, and pray that enemies will be reconciled.
We remember, and we will help to bring antagonists together.
Remember the hatred, and pray that love will replace it.
We remember, and we will banish the hate that holds us bound.

In Flanders Fields
Poem by John McCrae 1872-1918
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard 'mid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep
Though poppies grow In Flanders fields.
TODAY IN PRAYER
We pray for those who are sick. Be with them, and with those who care for them we pray.
STEWARDSHIP SECONDS
Do good by stealth, and blush to find it fame. ~ Alexander Pope (1688-1744), English poet
ON YOUR BEHALF
The United Church of Canada Issues a Consumer Alert
Toronto: People who are selling vehicles, particularly on the Internet, should be aware of a fraud scheme that suggests The United Church of Canada will sponsor the purchase of the vehicle as a thank-you gift for someone who has faithfully served the church for many years.
The scheme works this way. A seller has advertised a vehicle for sale. The seller receives an e-mail from an individual who claims to be acting on behalf of a relative who wishes to buy the vehicle. The e-mail says that the transaction is being sponsored by United Church of Canada committee members, who want to purchase the vehicle in commemoration of this relative's "good evangelical life in the church (ministry)."
The seller is asked to forward payment particulars, so that the church can issue a cheque in the seller's name. That cheque, according to the e-mail, will include an additional sum of money-ranging from $3,300 to $7,500-to cover shipping and tax charges. Once the seller receives payment for the vehicle, the seller is asked to use the surplus funds to cover these additional costs by sending a cheque to the agent who will handle shipment of the vehicle to Canada.
Of course the shipper never turns up to take the vehicle, and the seller soon discovers that the cheque he or she cashed as payment for the sale of the vehicle was counterfeit. The seller then may be charged with a crime.
