Life and Work of the Church

*Introit "I've Got Peace Like a River" #577VU

1 I've got peace like a river,

I've got peace like a river,

I've got peace like a river in-a my soul.

I've got peace like a river,

I've got peace like a river,

I've got peace like a river in-a my soul.

2 I've got joy like a fountain,

I've got joy like a fountain,

I've got joy like a fountain in-a my soul.

I've got joy like a fountain,

I've got joy like a fountain,

I've got joy like a fountain in-a my soul.

3 I've got love like an ocean,

I've got love like an ocean,

I've got love like an ocean in-a my soul.

I've got love like an ocean,

I've got love like an ocean,

I've got love like an ocean in-a my soul.

*Call to Worship (responsive):

The Spirit says, "Come".

And let everyone who hears say, "Come".

And let everyone who is thirsty come.

Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.

(Pour Water into the font)

Shout with joy to the Lord, all you lands.

Lift up your voice, rejoice and sing.

Let the sea make a noise and all that is in it,

The lands and those who dwell therein.

Let the rivers clap their hands,

And let the hills ring out with joy before the Lord, when God comes to judge the earth.

Prayer (in unison)

O God, we ask for living water, but dip our buckets in old wells. We offer dried crusts and stale water, while complaining that no one will come to our banquet. Forgive us, O God, for our stale words, stale prayers, stale dreams. Forgive us, O God, for turning up our noses at your water, cool and crisp, that brings new life. (Silent Reflection) Amen.

As recipients of the bread of life, we offer bread to the hungry. For the gift of living water, we reach out to those who are thirsty. In the name of One who shared our flesh and put life on the line for justice and truth, we gladly dedicate our time, talents and treasure. Draw us near to you, God, as we imitate your generosity. Amen.

* Communion Hymn VU 449 - Crashing Waters at Creation

Invitation

At this table all are fed, and no one turned away hungry.

Thanks be to God.

At this table all are given drink, and no one goes away thirsty.

Thanks be to God.

The Great Thanksgiving

Dios los bandiga.

May God bless you.

God's blessing is visible among us.

God is manifested through friends and family. We are part of the worldwide family of God.

We will give God thanks and praise.

It is right to give God thanks and praise for all our many blessings.

Over water's unshaped . . . Child Jesus was baptized.

Thirst-quenching God,

hear our prayers:

prayers from the . . . too much despair;

prayers for those we have named and for those we name in silence.....

Rainmaker God, you . . . flow, and flow, and flow,

hear the prayers of a grateful people,

a people who do not take your gifts for granted:

gifts of love . . . go beyond all words,

but not beyond our silent praise....

Baptizing God, Spirit . . . into new life,

turn our lives around;

turn this church around;

turn your world around.

Keep your reign . . .moments of daring grace,

for we offer our lives to the One in whom your new creation had already begun as we pray the prayer that Jesus taught:

The Lord's Prayer

Words of Institution

Breaking the Bread

Pouring the Wine

Distribution of Gifts

Prayer after Communion (In Unison)

Thank you, God, for these gifts of drink and bread. Thank you for the refreshment and renewal at your table. May it help us all live as your worldwide family, brothers and sisters, caring for each other. Amen.
